WILL Rigg crossed for tries in either half as Coventry Rugby romped to a dominant 51-7 victory against previously unbeaten Doncaster Knights.
Rigg scored the game’s opening try before Will Wand and James Tyas also dotted down in the first half to put Coventry in command.
And Rigg touched down again at the start of the second period as James Martin, Tobi Wilson, Ryan Hutler and Lucas Titherington all crossed for tries at Butts Park Arena.
And the result means Coventry sit fourth in the Championship table, nine points behind leaders Ealing Trailfinders with a game in-hand.
The home side scored the first try of the match after just four minutes as Rigg powered over from close range after Coventry secured the ball at a lineout.
However, Doncaster responded with a try of their own as Peter Roberts drove over the line and Sam Olver kicked the conversion following a turnover in midfield.
Coventry hit back with their second try just three minutes later as Wand scored under the posts after supporting Pat Pellegrini’s break with the latter adding the conversion.
And Pellegrini then kicked a penalty to extend Coventry’s lead before some big carries and a fine break and offload from Wand set up Tyas for a try which Pellegrini converted.
After some valiant defending at the end of the first half, the home side scored their bonus point try two minutes into the second period as Rigg touched down following an excellent 50-22 kick from Pellegrini.
And Martin then celebrated his 50th Coventry appearance with a try in the corner after a 40-metre burst from Rigg with Will Chudley in support.
The tries continued to flow as Wilson danced under the posts from Matt Kvesic’s long pass and Pellegrini converted before Cov skipper Poole and his opposite number Harri Morris were sent to the sin bin.
There was still time for Hutler to gather Pellegrini’s chip and race to the line from 40-metres out before Titherington completed the scoring from a set move at a lineout in the dying moments.
