COVENTRY Rugby stretched their winning run to eight matches after battling to a 27-14 bonus point victory against London Scottish.

Tries from Rhys Anstey, Will Wand, Will Chudley and Suva Ma’asi earned Cov another fine win at Butts Park Arena.

The result means Coventry remain second in the Championship table, four points behind Ealing Trailfinders with one game left to play.

After an error strewn opening quarter hour, Cov eventually scored the game’s first try on 16 minutes when Anstey forced his way over from Matt Kvesic’s well-timed pass.

An Evan Mitchell penalty just before the half-hour mark extended Cov’s lead after Adam Nicol won a scrum penalty against the feed on London’s 10-metre line.

Mitchell missed with another penalty attempt from 37 metres out before Wand touched down four minutes before the break from Tobi Wilson’s pass.

However, the visitors responded on the stroke of half time when Hayden Hyde applied a neat finish and Alec Lloyd-Seed added the extras.

Cov struck again just four minutes after the interval as Chudley took advantage of a gap on the blindside of a scrum to race to the corner as Mitchell added the extras.

London lost Lloyd-Seed to the sin bin in the closing minutes as Ma’asi went over for Cov’s bonus point try from a neatly-worked lineout and Mitchell converted from the touchline.

The visitors had the last laugh as Austin Wallis crossed in the final minute from a five-metre lineout and Daniel Nutton kicked the extras.

Coventry finish the season away at Cornish Pirates on Saturday, May 11 with kick-off at 2.30pm at The Mennaye.
