COVENTRY Rugby ended their three-game losing run with a bonus point 48-21 victory against Richmond.

The home side ran in eight tries as Allan Ferrie crossed twice while Jack Reeves, Josh Barton, Morgan Adderly-Jones, Api Bavadra, David Opoku-Fordjour and Morgan Strong all dotted down at Butts Park Arena.

And the result means Coventry sit fifth in the Champ Rugby table, eight points behind second-placed Worcester Warriors.

Alex Rae’s side made the perfect start as Reeves finished well in the corner from Tommy Mathews’ pass with the game just six minutes old.

However, Richmond responded with a try of their own on 12 minutes as Freddie Charles darted over from close range while Callum Grieve’s conversion edged the visitors into the lead.

The lead changed hands again six minutes later when Ferrie crossed for his first try of the game with a powerful run under the posts and Mathews added the extras.

And Coventry scored a third try on 28 minutes as Barton collected Chester Owen’s offload to increase the home side’s lead as Mathews converted.

However, Richmond cut the deficit on 36 minutes when Donnacha Byrne scored following a length-of-the-field move and Grieve added the extras.

And Richmond stunned the home side on the stroke of half time as visiting captain Jake Monson ran a superb line and fended off defenders to score the away side’s third try.

Grieve’s third conversion from as many attempts sent Richmond into the break with a shock two-point lead.

However, Coventry scored their bonus point try on 47 minutes as Adderly-Jones touched down from Barton’s pass and Mathews converted as the hosts reclaimed the lead.

The home side struck again on the hour mark when Bavadra powered over the line from Sam Maunder’s offload.

And Coventry dotted down again four minutes later as Ferrie scored his second try of the game.

The hosts scored a seventh try on 69 minutes when Opoku-Fordjour touched down following a sweeping team move.

And Strong completed the scoring in the final minute with a powerful effort which Mathews converted.

Coventry are next in action against Hartpury on Saturday, February 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Butts Park Arena.
