RUGBY UNION - Coventry Rugby expect first-ever Butts Park Arena sell-out ahead of Northampton Saints clash

COVENTRY Rugby are confident Butts Park Arena will sell-out for the first time when Premiership champions Northampton Saints visit in the Premiership Rugby Cup this weekend.

The previous record crowd at the ground saw 5,047 spectators watch their Boxing Day win against Nottingham in 2023.

Cov have won all seven of their league and cup matches this season and stunned Leicester Tigers to win 33-19 at Welford Road in their last outing.

And the club hope the arrival of Premiership champions Northampton to Butts Park Arena will lead to a sell-out of all 5,250 available seats

Coventry Rugby’s general manager, Matt Cannon, said: “We sold out the main stand which holds 2750 in the middle of last week.

“We’re selling around 200 tickets a day and have a few hundred standing tickets left.

“We also have over 300 people dining in the marquee and another 160 in the Askew’s suite which means they are both at capacity.

“Anyone wanting to join us on Saturday should buy standing tickets as soon as possible either from our website or by phone as we think we’ll be sold out by the middle of the week.”

Bars at the ground will open at 12 noon with all screens to show Coventry City’s lunchtime game against Sheffield United (12.30pm, kick-off).

Supporters can enjoy drinks promotions until 2pm with the club shop open from 1pm.

The club’s community department will run mini rugby sessions on the pitch.

Cannon added: “We will advise where the best places are to park in our pre-match guide as we anticipate the car park being full by 12.30pm.

“In partnership with Purity and Ronnies of Warwick we will have additional bars open around the ground, our food outlets will all be open and we have arranged additional toilets.

“There is also live music after the game in both the marquee and the Jon Sharp Suite.

“We’re hopeful this is the first of four 5000-plus crowds at the BPA this season and it should be a fabulous occasion.”
