RUGBY UNION - Coventry Rugby head coach Rae delighted to end season on a high

ALEX Rae paid tribute to Coventry Rugby’s departing players following a final day win against London Scottish.

Coventry will say their goodbyes to 19 players at the end of the campaign while departing trio Logan Trotter, Jake Henry and Will Lane all signed off with tries in a 50-31 success at Butts Park Arena.

And ahead of a summer of change with regards to Coventry’s playing squad, Rae praised his players for ending the season on a positive note.

Rae said: “All of the boys were excellent.

“Some of them are leaving as well so credit to them because it is easy to down tools but we didn’t see that and it’s nice to be able to send the fans away with something to be proud of.

“They are all good blokes and I am going to miss a lot of them and it’s nice to sign off with another final happy memory.

“I’m particularly going to miss Scays [defence coach James Scaysbrook] because we have worked together for a while.”

Trotter, Henry and Sam Maunder all crossed twice while Lane and Tommy Mathews also dotted down as Coventry ended the season on a high.

The game also featured four yellow cards with one Coventry player and three London Scottish players sent to the sin-bin.

And the last of these sin-bins allowed the home side to score four tries in the final 11 minutes.

Rae added: “We got there in the end. It was a bit huff and puff in the first half when we lacked a little bit of energy but fair play to the lads, they turned it on in the second half, the fans got into the game and the place is rocking when it’s like that.

“That momentum, once we got going, was really difficult to stop.

“All credit to the lads because they executed some really brilliant tries and we saw some of our best running rugby of the season.”
