COVENTRY Rugby exacted revenge on Ampthill after securing a 34-6 bonus point home win against the Bedfordshire club.
The home side trailed by a point at the break before Alex Rae’s men registered 29 unanswered points to seal victory at Butts Park Arena.
And the result means Coventry sit third in the Championship table.
Coventry made the perfect start when Tobi Wilson forced his way over in the corner after just two minutes following some slick handling from Pat Pellegrini and Matt Kvesic.
However, the home side’s ill-discipline allowed Ampthill to take a one point lead into the break after Gwyn Parks kicked two penalties.
Rae’s men turned the game on its head at the start of the second half as Jimmy Martin raced over in the corner from Wilson’s pass with Pellegrini adding the extras.
And Coventry scored their third try six minutes later when captain Jordon Poole touched down after the home pack shunted him over the line following a kick to the corner with Pellegrini again converting.
Pellegrini kicked a penalty soon after before Martin crossed for the home side’s bonus point try after debutant Chester Owen broke from inside his own 22 and Pellegrini floated an overhead pass to the try scorer in a stunning 20-pass move.
And Will Wand completed the scoring on 70 minutes when he cruised to the line from 40-metres out and Pellegrini kicked the extras.
Coventry are next in action away at Doncaster Knights on Saturday, March 2 with kick-off at 2.30pm at Castle Park.
