COVENTRY Rugby claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 33-22 bonus point victory away at Caldy.

The visitors ran in five tries at Paton Field as Morgan Strong, Senitiki Nayalo, Josh Thomas, Dafydd Rhys-Tiueti and Ewan Baker all touched down for Alex Rae’s side.

And the result means Coventry sit eighth in the Champ Rugby table with five wins and five defeats from 10 matches.

Caldy scored the game’s first try on 13 minutes when Michael Barlow ran in under the posts unopposed following a five-metre scrum.

However, Coventry drew level four minutes later as Strong produced a powerful finish under the posts from five metres out and Thomas kicked the extras.

The home side reclaimed the lead when Kieran Wilkinson kicked a penalty after the referee penalised Coventry for offside.

And Caldy crossed for their second try on 26 minutes as Ryan Higginson crossed in the corner after Obi Ene leapt highest to claim a box kick.

Coventry closed the gap to three points on 33 minutes when Nayalo powered over following sustained pressure on the Caldy line and Thomas converted.

And the visitors turned the game on its head after the interval on 52 minutes as Thomas collected a delayed pass to score and converted his own try.

The lead changed hands again on the hour mark when Caldy’s Connor Wilkinson forced his way over the line after Coventry failed to claim their own lineout inside their own 22.

However, Coventry went back in front five minutes later as Tiueti spun through a tackle to score from close range and secure a bonus point.

And the visitors took command of the game three minutes later when Baker finished a flowing move after Nayalo broke the line.

Caldy searched for a route back into the game in the closing minutes as David Opoku-Fordjour received a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on late on.

Coventry are next in action against Nottingham on Saturday, December 20 with kick-off at 3pm at Butts Park Arena.
