COVENTRY Rugby scored 10 tries in a dominant 68-24 pre-season victory against old rivals Birmingham Moseley at Billesley Common.

Jimmy Martin and Will Wand both scored twice with Will Rigg, James Tyas, Louis James, Jordon Poole, Will Lane and Elliot Chilvers all crossing for tries while Evan Mitchell and Will Mannion kicked six and three conversions respectively.

The home side took an early lead when Tighe Maxwell-Whiteley kicked a penalty before Coventry centre Rigg powered his way over the line to score the game’s first try with Mitchell converting.

And the visitors scored their second try after a clever dummy from Tyas saw the Coventry man force his way over with Mitchell adding the exras.

Alex Rae’s side scored a third try when Martin finished in the corner before James touched down under the posts for try number four with Mitchell converting both scores.

However, Moseley scored the final try of the half as Callum Allen crossed following a well-worked lineout routine with Maxwell-Whiteley kicking the extras.

Coventry extended their lead early in the second half as Martin crossed for his second try before replacement Poole touched down close to the posts with Mitchell converting.

And replacement scrum half Lane was next to cross with Mitchell adding the extras with Moseley’s Dan Brough sent off for a dangerous tackle on the try scorer.

Coventry’s new signing Chilvers forced his way over to bring up the visitors half-century of points only for Jack Teague to respond with Moseley’s second try of the night.

Moseley captain Ollie Stedman added the home side’s third try, all converted by Maxwell-Whiteley, before Wand scored under the posts following a neat step.

And Wand completed the scoring after racing to the posts from halfway with Mannion’s conversion putting the seal on an impressive pre-season display.

Coventry are next in action at home to Premiership champions Saracens on Saturday, September 9 in the Premiership Cup with kick-off at 4pm at Butts Park Arena.
