COVENTRY Rugby have announced the signing of former Jersey Reds tighthead prop Adam Nicol ahead of the club’s Championship opener.
The 26-year-old helped Jersey top the Championship table last season only for the club to fold last month before the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
Nicol spent two seasons in Jersey after making the move from United Rugby Championship outfit Glasgow Warriors in 2021.
Nicol said: “It’s a very sad situation for Jersey and not a position that I ever thought I’d find myself in.
“I’m really grateful that Coventry have given me this opportunity to continue playing full-time rugby in the Championship with an ambitious club that is looking to go places.
“When I spoke to Alex he told me what his goals for the club are and I saw that as a very good fit for me.
“I really loved the atmosphere when I played here for Jersey last year and am really looking forward to being part of the squad at such a well-supported, close-knit club.”
Coventry head coach, Alex Rae, added: “It’s great to welcome Adam to Coventry.
“It’s been a tough few weeks for him with what happened at Jersey and we’re really happy to be able to offer him a new home.
“He’s a talented tighthead who is proven in the Championship but still has loads of scope for further growth as a player.
“We’re really looking forward to working with him, helping him progress and achieve his goals. I’m sure he’s going to be a great addition and really add something to an already strong Coventry pack.”
Nicol won 14 caps for Scotland’s under-20 side during his time with Glasgow while also appearing in the European Champions Cup.
