ALEX Rae felt his side rose to the occasion following Coventry Rugby’s 51-7 demolition of previously unbeaten Doncaster Knights.
Will Rigg touched down twice while Will Wand, James Tyas, James Martin, Tobi Wilson, Ryan Hutler and Lucas Titherington all crossed for tries at Butts Park Arena.
Coming into the fixture off the back of a disappointing defeat at Ampthill, Coventry head coach Rae could not hide his delight following a near-perfect display from his side in front of a big home crowd.
Rae said: “There was a bit of pressure on us after our stuttering performance at Ampthill and we really rose to the occasion.
“We squeezed the life out of Doncaster, were really clinical and put our foot on the throat and kept going at them at every opportunity.
“They are a good team who came here unbeaten but we have a proud home record and our lads really showed some tremendous fight.”
And Rae felt his side’s strong defence at the end of the first half set the home side on their way to an impressive victory.
Rae added: “There are always vital moments in games and we always talk about not knowing at the time which will be the one that ends up being crucial.
“The long spell of defence on our own line just before half-time could well have been that moment.
“It meant Doncaster went in with their heads down rather than being buoyed by scoring just before the break and we then took the game away from them.”
Coventry are next in action away at league leaders Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday, November 25 with kick-off at 2.30pm at Trailfinders Sports Club.
