CHARLIE Robson crossed for two tries as Coventry Rugby maintained their perfect start to the season with a bonus point 28-14 win against Chinnor.

Robson touched down either side of half time while Tom Hitchcock and Jordon Poole also dotted down at Butts Park Arena.

The result means Coventry remain three points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Cov defended well in the opening stages to thwart two attacking lineouts as the newly-promoted side twice turned possession over in promising positions.

And the home side took the lead against the run of play on 13 minutes when Hitchcock exchanged passes with Jimmy Martin and cruised to the line with Liam Richman adding the extras.

Alex Rae’s side struck again seven minutes later as Richman’s long pass released Robson who dotted down his first try of the match with the former again kicking the conversion.

However, Chinnor responded on 24 minutes when scrum-half Luke Carter dummied his way over the line as Connor Slevin converted following a lineout from close range.

After a frantic first period, Cov went into the break with a narrow seven-point lead as the home side piled on the pressure at the start of the second half.

And Cov’s pressure eventually told on 49 minutes when Poole applied the finishing touch to a well-executed lineout drive with Richman adding the extras.

A pair of fine last-ditch interventions kept Cov in command as first Robson superbly denied Kieran Goss a certain try before Hitchcock prevented the same player from scoring soon after.

Cov scored their bonus point try on 67 minutes when Robson gathered Fin Ogden’s perfectly-weighted kick and dotted down under the posts as Richman stayed perfect from the kicking tee.

Chinnor scored a consolation try through Morgan Passman in the corner in the final minute which Slevin converted but it proved too little too late as Cov secured a fourth straight league win.

Coventry are next in action away at Caldy on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Paton Field.
