COVENTRY Rugby centre Will Wand has won the Championship’s Player of the Month award for September.
Wand starred for Cov in the Premiership Rugby Cup, scoring two tries in four appearances and claimed the man of the match award in his side’s impressive win against Saracens.
The 21-year-old finished ahead of Cornish Pirates’ Kyle Moyle, Nottingham’s David Williams, Ruben Bird-Tulloch of Ealing and Bedford’s Cameron King in the voting.
Wand’s head coach at Coventry, Alex Rae said: “Will has definitely kicked on this season so far and given that he is only 22 it will be exciting to see his growth over the coming seasons.
“I’m not sure he realises just how far he could go but if he keeps working hard in my opinion the sky is the limit for him.
“Will doesn’t say much, he’s a quiet man who just goes about his business and lets his rugby do the talking.
“His performances in the cup were outstanding but they were very much built on how he trains.
“Using the stats we generate from technology like GPS tracking he hits some incredible figures in training day in, day out.
“He then takes that into games which sends a clear message to everyone that the way you prepare definitely affects how you perform at the weekend.”
Coventry begin their 2023/24 league campaign at home to Caldy on Saturday, October 28 with kick-off at 4pm at Butts Park Arena.
