CRICKET: A RUTHLESS display of bowling from Standard CC helped them thump Highway Spartans in a crushing eight wicket victory in their latest Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division game.
Had it not been for 38 extras, Spartans wouldn’t have even reached 100 as they were skittled out for just 101 – helped by the accurate bowling of Thomas Kidd who returned with figures of five wickets for 28 runs.
Spartans opener Matt McCarthy was caught by Liam Windridge for a duck while his opening partner Billy Dyal made just five runs.
Karandeep Bharj and Amandeep Hallat both fell for just two runs, reducing the visiting side to 26/4.
Wicketkeeper Stewart Garry then fell for six runs when he was caught by Ryan Leybourne off the bowling of Thomas Kidd.
Kyle Miller and Ari Doak-Smith were the only two Spartans batsmen to offer any resistance as the tail enders managed just 14 runs between them.
In reply, Standard were reduced to 22/2 when Thomas Alcock and Andy Jones both fell for single figures.
However opener Ryan Leybourne and number four Thomas Kidd hit knocks of 39* and 48* respectively to guide the home side to a comfortable eight wicket victory.
Standard picked up 20 points for their efforts and are now sixth in the Warwickshire Premier Division, 47 points short of table topping Bedworth.
