CRAIG Hampson has earned himself a new Wasps deal for next season after impressing on an initial loan deal since January.

The scum half moved to the Ricoh Arena from Bristol as injury cover for Joe Simpson and after making two appearances, the 25-year-old has been offered a permanent deal.

“Craig has impressed since he arrived in January, both in the games he’s played and in training,” said Wasps director of rugby Dai Young.

“He came to the club with a good reputation from his time with Bristol and Yorkshire Carnegie in the Championship. We have been very impressed with his ability and attitude and we’re really pleased that he will be part of our very talented group of scrum halves for next season.”

Hampson joined Bristol ahead of the 2014/15 season, having been named in the Championship Dream Team XV after an impressive 2013/14 campaign with Yorkshire Carnegie and went on to make 39 appearances for the West-Country side.

Hampson added: “I’m obviously delighted Dai has given me the opportunity to extend my stay at Wasps.

“I’m really looking forward to continuing to improve and to push my case. We have a very talented group of scrum halves and I’ve really enjoyed working with the guys here. The whole squad have been very welcoming since I arrived in January and I’m looking forward to playing my part as we move forward as a group.”
