DEFENDERS Aaron Martin and Aaron Phillips are both knocking on Tony Mowbray’s door after impressing for the club’s Under-21s earlier this week.

City’s developments side suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Championship side Birmingham City on Monday, with both Aaron’s performing well.

Martin has been continuing his recovery from an ankle injury since December but got some valuable minutes under his belt against the Blues with a commanding and experienced performance in the heart of defence.

While Phillips impressed too as he hopes to get another shot at the first team in the final months of the season having already made 20 appearances under Mowbray this season.

Jack Finch equalised for the Sky Blues eight minutes from time after Viv Solomon-Otabor has fired Blues in front on 77 minutes and with just three minutes remaining Alex Jones scored a winner for the home side.

“I thought the two Aaron’s were outstanding,” said Sky Blues Under-21 coach Lee Glover,” whose side have now lost six of their last seven matches.

“Both Phillips and Martin. Martin very decisive, very dominant in the air. Phillips got forward well.”

“We’re very disappointed we didn’t get anything out the game. We’ve had a mix up with 88-minutes gone – a run of the mill ball in to the box and we haven’t dealt with it.

“I put it down to a lack of concentration, lack of decision making and we’re getting punished for it.

“There were some good performances – the minimum we should have come away with is a point.

“Some games in the past we have been up against it, not today – we performed very well today and the minimum we deserve is a point.”
