SKY Blues boss Steven Pressley believes new signing Simeon Jackson will provide goals this season after the former Norwich City striker signed on a one-year deal.

The 27-year-old joins the Sky Blues after being released by Championship side Millwall this summer.

Jackson, who has been capped 38 times by Canada, will provide more competition for places in attack following the recent arrivals of Marcus Tudgay, Shaun Miller and Josh McQuoid and is expected to make his debut against Barnsley on Tuesday night.

“Simeon is a player that has played at the highest level, scored at the highest level and has a track record of being an individual that team mates can depend on when the time comes.” said Pressley.

“All of those attributes are the kind I want in my players.

“He’s got a great attitude, he’s hungry, he’s a very good age and he knows what promotion requires whether that be into League One or the Premier League and his experience will be a huge benefit to the younger players in the dressing room.

“His goal-scoring record throughout the leagues also speaks for itself and I’m looking forward to his arrival taking the competition for places among the strikers up another gear.”

Jackson began his professional career at Rushden and Diamonds where he maintained a ratio of nearly a goal every other game, scoring 43 goals in just over 100 appearances.

The Jamaican-born striker’s form sealed him a move to then League Two side Gillingham where he maintained his goal ratio, scoring 42 goals over 114 appearances for the Gills over nearly three years including the 90th minute play-off final winner which saw Gillingham return to League One in 2008/09.

Jackson’s habit for scoring important goals continued when he signed a two-year deal to join Championship side Norwich City in 2010.

He netted 13 times that season including the winning goal in the penultimate game of the campaign away at Portsmouth which secured the Canaries’ promotion to the Premier League where he made 35 apperances and scored eight goals over the next two seasons.

The club also confirmed this week that 19-year old defender Stuart Urquhart has agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent

Urquhart signed for the Sky Blues last September and was tipped to become a star for the future but he has failed to impress Pressley after failing to break into the first team.
