Sky Blues stadium plans on University of Warwick site pick up pace after recent talks

THE PROSPECT of a new home for Coventry City appears to be picking up pace after further positive talks between the club and the University of Warwick were held.

In a joint statement administered by both parties, productive discussions were held in the first week of November which provided a clearer outline of what plans for a future Sky Blues stadium would entail.

Attended by the UoW hierarchy and City’s owners and management, the suggestion of a development site for an environmentally-friendly stadium on the edge of the University’s central campus was welcomed – a decision which could provide community and sporting benefits for both parties should the outlined plans come to fruition.

As a result of the meeting, the English Football League have subsequently been informed of the joint vision, one which would be entirely funded and profits received by Coventry City.

It provides welcome news to Sky Blues fans, who first became aware of the potential collaboration back in July.

And while Coventry’s exile at Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s stadium will continue this season, the development of future stadium plans between stakeholders in the project will at least ensure another update in early 2021 – one which could begin to pave the way for a Sky Blues return to the City of three spires.
