FOOTBALL: THE SKY Blues are set to appeal against the decision to send off skipper Jordan Willis in the first half of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat in Northampton.
The 22-year-old was shown a straight red for a challenge on David Buchanan with just 15 minutes played on Saturday at Sixfields Stadium.
Willis appeared to take the ball as he tackled the Northampton Town player by the touchline in front of the travelling Coventry City fans, but experienced referee Lee Probert was quick to dismiss the City defender for the perhaps over eager tackle.
Speaking about the challenge after Saturday’s defeat, City boss Russell Slade said: “It is a bit harsh, having looked at it. He’s won the ball, but it has been construed as dangerous.”
The Observer understands the Sky Blues will now make an appeal to the Football Association and are hoping football’s governing body will overturn a potential three-match ban for Willis which would see the City skipper miss Saturday’s home clash against Millwall, as well as the Checkatrade Trophy semi-final at home to Wycombe and the trip to Oldham on February 11.
