WATER POLO: COVENTRY’S water polo team were in action against Boldmere in the club’s latest Midland League Men’s Division I fixture on Wednesday.
The game started slowly for Coventry as the home side conceded two early goals, while there was little luck on the attack.
Coventry eventually opened their account through Rob Williams, though his marker appeared to have little impact on the rest of the team as Boldmere continued to break down Coventry’s defence.
Dave Lambie closed the gap a little for the city side, but Boldmere capitalised on Coventry’s lack of enthusiasm – gaining a couple more goals as the quarter finishing with Boldmere leading 6–2.
A slow start to the second period saw Boldmere gain a further goal within the first minute.
A couple of exclusions cost the home side, though Ben Greenhill added a third goal for Coventry.
The game seemed to start turning in Coventry’s favour as Boldmere struggled at the start of the third quarter.
A further goal from Williams was following by more defensive pressure as Williams added a third.
Spurred by Coventry’s sudden change of pace, Boldmere stepped up to the mark to regain two more goals in quick succession.
Coxy had other plans and slowed Boldmere’s goal succession by scoring for Coventry.
Unfortunately Coventry’s steam seemed to have burned out and Boldmere managed to score another two goals.
The last quarter started with Coventry needing to climb a mountain if they were to win.
Another exclusion early on meant Boldmere put another goal on the scoreboard.
The game ended Boldmere 14-9 Coventry, a disappointing result.
