STRIKER George Thomas is ready to be called into first team action again after bagging a brace for the Sky Blues’ Under-23s this week in a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.
Former Leeds United striker Luciano Becchio led the line for the Sky Blues as he hopes to earn a contract with the League One club, but it was Wales striker Thomas who will have caught manager Tony Mowbray’s eye on Monday afternoon.
The 19-year-old scored both goals as Nicky Eaden’s side recorded back-to-back victories in the Professional Development League – South and Thomas has now scored four goals in his last three games as he looks for a recall to Mowbray’s first team.
“Starting with the first-team in pre-season and then not hitting the form I would have liked was a disappointment to me,” said Thomas, who has made four first team appearances this season.
“I, like others, just need to knuckle down and show what I can do.
“I need to prove I am good enough to make the step-up and continue to score goals and help my teammates as much as possible.
“For anyone my age you want to be playing first-team football, but you don’t just get given it and we all know we have to keep going, keep impressing and then we’ll get our chance.”
