Sub-lime Linton is Alvis cup hero from the bench

DILDALE Linton’s late double sent Coventry Alvis through to the second round of the Les James Challenge Cup after twice coming from behind against visitors Coton Green.

The substitute scored twice in the final moments to seal a 4-2 first-round success.

Michael Bloore struck twice in the first half for Coton Green, with Tyrike Richards’ 12th-minute equaliser cancelling out the opening goal.

Alvis faced a challenge after the restart and had to wait until ten minutes from time to find an equaliser, courtesy of Riley Keasey’s stunning strike.

Extra time seemed inevitable but with a minute of normal time remaining, substitute Linton fired Alvis ahead before making sure of the victory when he converted from Lewis Ludford’s cut back a minute later.

Alvis will face Division Three side WLV Sport in the second round at the end of November, but next host FC Stratford on Saturday (3pm) in Midland League Division Two contest.
