SWIMMING - Rugby Artistic Swimming Club make a splash at National Age Group Championships

Coventry Editorial 17th May, 2022   0

RUGBY Artistic Swimming Club achieved more medal success at the National Age Group Championships competing at the highest level against national GB swimmers at Gloucester’s GL1 swimming pool.

Rugby came away with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals from the two-day event which saw 22 clubs from across the UK compete with five events in each of two age groups.

Keva Ennis and Aaron Lee won gold with a solid performance in the mixed duet on day two after Ennis won silver the previous day in the under-10 age category in the individual figures event.

And Kitty Tyers and Lola Huett took home bronze in the 12 and under duet’s after a great technical performance to finish day one on a high for the club.

Rugby’s medal haul was completed with a bronze in the 12 and under free team event after a smooth and confident swim with Rugby’s 13-15 age group missing out on a medal by 0.7 points.

Head Coach Hannah Secher said: “It was a really great competition for all involved, with the first National Qualification for five of our swimmers.

“A close and exciting competition, with Rugby showing that they continue to be competitive across the age groups on a national level.”

Lola delivered a beautiful solo in the under-12’s with the second highest score for her routine and came sixth overall, spurred on by Rugby’s visible and noisy poolside presence.

And in the duets 13-15 age group Tilly John and India Townsend placed eighth with a great combined score against extremely tough competition.

At the end of the weekend, Rugby were congratulated on their behaviour towards others, their fun poolside support, and their interactions with each other by organisers and the press.

All competitors and supporters were treated to a live showcase from the GB Tech Duet, Tech Solo and Tech Team on the first day in an exciting and inspiring opportunity for the young athletes to watch swimmers of the highest standard.

Rugby’s swimmers were then able to meet and obtain signatures from Kate Shortman and Izzy Thorpe both of whom are Team GB Olympians.
