RUGBY Swimming Club’s artistic squad won four silver medals at the Swim England Artistic Swimming National Masters Championships at Harvey Hadden Sports Village in Nottingham last month.

The club’s combo team won silver in the 40-64 years-old age category for their ‘Sweet Dreams’ routine with a score of 53.7667 as Alison Richardson, Annette Parker, Catherine Reekie, Joyce Williams, Julie Bowler-Smith and Sandra Anstruther all contributed to an impressive performance in the pool.

And Anstruther and Bowler-Smith then achieved a well-deserved silver medal in the 40-49 years-old age category for their ‘Romeo and Juliet’ duet with a score of 54. 2471.

The pair were just three points away from the gold medal and swam the same routine as they did in Rome earlier this year having put in extra training and tweaks to swim a more impactful routine which was duly rewarded with silver.

And their confident, expressive and technically sound swim saw their tech duet added to the free team routine which contributed to a score of 110.9804, taking the team to silver. The tech routine consists of several compulsory elements and all of the required lifts were well-executed.

There was also silver for Annette Parker’s free solo ‘Mulan’ swim in the 50-59 years-old age category as she gained a strong score of 54.8333.

Every Rugby SC member in the 18-24 years-old age category swam in their first masters event of the year which proved a nerve-racking experience.

There were four Rugby entries in the free solo competition from Jadine Carrol, Bethany Clarke, Maisie Grinter who finished sixth and Charlie Putt who was the highest placed Rugby swimmer of the day in fifth place with a score of 62.1667.

And Ariane Sargent and Jagoda Czuplak swam their technical duet to gain invaluable experience of what is expected at masters level before the duo achieved an excellent score in their free duet of 107.2215 to finish just outside of the medals in fourth place.

The event is the most prestigious on the national masters calendar as Rugby enjoyed further success at a national competition with four silver medals.
