Natalie Haythorn-Thwaite left disappointed after Wasps Netball lose out to her former club Manchester Thunder

NETBALL: Natalie Haythorn-Thwaite could not get one over her former club after her Wasps Netball side narrowly lost out 52-58 at home to Manchester Thunder.

Greenway was unhappy as Wasps let a lead slip against Manchester Thunder in front of a big and noisy crowd at the Ricoh Arena, and is hoping they can return to winning ways at Surrey Storm next time out.

The game was put back for 45 minutes after Thunder were stuck in traffic on the M6 for several hours, and it looked as if Wasps would be heading for another win as they led by give goals at half time.

But Thunder – who have now won four games on the bounce – inched their way back into the game and ended the night comfortably on top.

That second half show left Greenway frustrated, and she will be aiming to ensure that doesn’t happen again on the return to the club where she spent seven years.

She said: “We did not kick on and that has been the story of our season so far. We are doing some really good things against teams but not having that finishing touch is getting frustrating.

“I struggle to understand why we can’t be confident when we are in those front positons and are taking the game to people but that is something we are going to have to focus on.

“We are getting into some really good positions and taking teams on but we have not got that finesse that we would really like to see at this stage in the season.

“It is really what we are gifting teams rather than what they are taking off us that is really frustrating and as a team we have to address that.

“I don’t think the delay in the game was a factor. Our errors cost us – the players were prepped and ready, they were buzzing before the game and they started really well. They went into half time five in front and should have been 10 up.”

Greenway also paid tribute to the crowd of more than 1,400 who were entertained in the Wasps Fan Village as Thunder inched their way down the M6.

She said: “It was a late start, they all stuck around and I think that shows the job everyone here does behind the scenes and the standard of the event we put on – we have to now take that on to the court.”

Wasps next home game sees them face Celtic Dragons at the Ricoh Arena on April 7.
