The Buzz is back for Bees fans as Boocock Testimonial remembered

Coventry Editorial 22nd Jun, 2020 Updated: 22nd Jun, 2020   0

ISSUE three of new Coventry Speedway programme The Buzz celebrates one of the most important anniversaries in club history.

Today’s (June 22) publication date is exactly 45 years to the day since Brandon Stadium was packed to the rafters for Nigel Boocock’s Testimonial meeting.

Boocock is regarded by many as the Bees’ greatest ever rider and his benefit event attracted a reported crowd of around 25,000.

Nigel sadly passed away in 2015 but his legacy lives on and the Bees are delighted to re-print both his own programme column and that of promoter Charles Ochiltree for that special occasion.

Elsewhere in The Buzz, American star Rick Miller reflects on his successful Coventry career, culminating in his own memorable Testimonial event in 1992.

Also included are two contenders for the accolade of ‘Brandon’s Strangest Races’ as well as a detailed look back at the 1999 Elite League season.

The present day campaign update focuses on the issues which have become apparent whenever talk of a new stadium has surfaced, whilst the club still battles against the outrageous, forced closure of Brandon.

It is another packed issue available for £2.25 plus postage and packaging. Orders can be placed at curtis-sport.com.

SUPPORTERS placing an order for issue three of The Buzz by June 22 have the chance to win a unique programme board featuring two of Coventry’s finest riders.

American stars Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill thrilled the Brandon crowds during their time with the club and both feature on the special souvenir.

The board features Coventry branding along with ‘H&H’ in their Bees colours of 2001 – ideal for when the speedway season gets going.

All orders placed by June 22 will be entered into a prize draw and one lucky winner will receive the prize.
