Tough guy Lauwers full of praise for Blaze newbie Ben Lake

ICE HOCKEY: TOUGH guy Dax Lauwers believes team mate of last season Ben Lake will be a ‘great fit’ for the type of team that head coach Danny Stewart is looking to build for the 2017/18 Elite League season.

Lauwers, who shared a locker-room with Ben Lake in North American last season during the pair’s ECHL campaign with the Alaska Aces, said Lake is a player that sticks up for his team mates and does whatever it takes to win.

He said: “He’s a good person that makes smart decisions on and off the ice.

“He’s a competitor at heart who has great speed.

“He’s solid in the defensive zone and can finish when given the opportunity too.”

Sadly, the pair ended the past season with an emotional night as Alaska said goodbye to their hockey team due to financial reasons.

Having spent 2015/16 with Cincinnati Cyclones, the American can also speak from experience playing against the Canadian who turned pro the same season in Alaska.

Dax said: “He’s a really solid guy who drives the net hard.

“I can’t say enough good things about him – I think he’ll be a great fit for a team like the one Danny is building in Coventry.”
