AN EXCITING start to the 2016 campaign lies ahead for Coventry Bears as they begin the season with a trip to Toulouse in the Kingstone Press League One.
The fixtures for the 2016 season have been released this week and show that the Bears will start with a trip to France on March 5 before hosting Rochdale on March 13 in their first home game at the Butts Park Arena.
Next year’s format has changed with each club playing each other either home or away for the first 15 games then the remainder of the fixtures are decided on merit.
The top eight will go into the play-offs for promotion while the bottom seven play for the League one shield.
The Bears have also made a significant change to their season with a change to Saturday games later in the summer to maximise local support and allow for games to be marketed as bigger events.
“I was personally very excited to see these fixtures and in particular our away draw to Toulouse in Round 1 which is fantastic for us in many ways,” said Bears managing director Alan Robinson.
“Not only will it be a big occasion for the club but also for the city as all eyes will be on that fixture in the first week of the competition.
“We must play everyone either home or away and I think we have done well from the draw avoiding some long away trips to Cumbria and Newcastle.
“We will be having a big focus on making our home games much bigger events on Saturdays when possible so next season will be very exciting for everyone involved and sports fans in the area.”
