COVENTRY Blaze have announced the signing of Canadian centreman Marly Quince for the 2022/23 Elite League season.
The 28-year-old split last season between the SPHL and ECHL scoring nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 11 games for the Fayetteville Marksmen and 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in 40 appearances for the Norfolk Admirals.
Over 2019/20, his first pro season, Quince also iced in both the SPHL and ECHL producing 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in nine games for Knoxville Ice Bears before registering nine points (four goals, five assists) in 26 games for the Reading Royals and South Carolina Stingrays.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said: “By adding Marly we get a true centre who adds quality up the middle. He’s a heavy player in how he plays, goes to hard areas, plays a great 200-foot game and can score.
“He finished last season very strong and we are getting him at a good time in his career. He makes us better in the circle and a guy that can play in all situations.
“We needed to act quickly after the Trotter news, and although Marly is a different style, we are fortunate to have found a quality centre at this time.”
Quince is a NCAA graduate of Clarkson University where he held an associate captaincy role in his final season and was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic team.
In 101 games with the Golden Knights, he recorded 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) and in each of his final two years led the team in face-off winning percentage (53.1% and 58.1%).
And in 2017/18 he was honoured with Clarkson Hockey’s Richmond Unsung Hero Award and in 2018/19 an NCAA (ECAC) Champion.
Before Clarkson, Quince was a standout for the Cornwall Colts of the CCHL where he tallied 205 points (95 goals, 110 assists) in 211 games and served as captain for two seasons.
He was a CCHL Champion in 2012/13, a three time All-Star and earned the league’s Outstanding Graduating Player in 2014/15.
