TRANSFER - Coventry Blaze retain Forbes for next season

Coventry Editorial 9th Jun, 2022   0

THE Genting Casino Coventry Blaze have confirmed the return of British forward Alex Forbes for the 2022/23 Elite League season.

Forbes registered six points (three goals, three assists) in 40 Elite League competition games last season before sustaining an injury in February which required surgery and put him out for the remainder of the campaign.

The 25-year-old is nearing 200 Elite League competition games for Coventry and has become a crucial part of the Blaze’s penalty-kill.

Prior to joining Blaze in 2018, Forbes spent a season with Milton Keynes Lightning adding 59 further Elite League games to his resume.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said: “We missed ‘Forbesy’ down the stretch last season. He gets better every year.

He played a big part with our special teams, and continues to provide us with versatility up and down the line-up, plus cover on the back-end.

“He’s a very valuable piece to our group here, and we are delighted to get him back.

“I thought he was playing his best hockey before his injury, and we expect him to be at full health when the season starts.”

Forbes began his hockey career with Elgin Ice Hockey Club near his hometown, Mosstowie in Scotland.

At 14 years-of-age he moved to Ontario, Canada with his family where he rose through the ranks of the OHA Mavericks Minor Midget programme.

In 2014, he began a three-year stint with Ogden Mustangs of the WSHL where he played over 150 times, registering nearly a point-per-game.

He was named Captain in his final season scoring an impressive 61 points in 49 games (27 goals, 34 assists) on the way to a league Championship.

The Scot has iced in three World Junior Championship campaigns with Great Britain’s under-18’s and 20’s, helping the team to promotion from Division 1B with two goals and an assist in the 2016 tournament.
