COVENTRY United Women FC have launched a new community award to recognise outstanding individuals within Coventry, who have excelled in their respective fields or have made significant efforts for the community.

Journalist, Trish Adudu, who is an icon of female empowerment and a regular presenter for BBC Radio for Coventry and Warwickshire, received one of the first awards for her notable work in journalism.

The presenter received her award at half-time during United’s FA Women’s Continental Cup League Cup against Reading on Friday, December 16.

Hattie and Alice Mogan also received the well-deserved Coventry Legends award after spearheading the fundraising effort that helped save United from the threat of liquidation over the Christmas and New Year period last year.

Alongside their family and club supporter Michael Mogan, the sister’s raised over £14,000 to ensure the club survived and also went on to raise thousands to feed people here and in Ukraine by performing more than 100 poems on YouTube.

The club is grateful for the support it received from Hattie and Alice during an enormously difficult time and are delighted to honour Adudu with this new award.

Club Chairman Lewis Taylor said: “During difficult times, we see many heroic people step up and make a difference. That is what Hattie and Alice did for us.

“Furthermore, Trish is a beacon of journalism and a symbol of women empowerment. Now it’s our turn to honour them and we are delighted to announce them as the first recipients of our new Coventry Legend awards.”

Coventry presented the first awards at half-time during the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture against Reading on Friday, December 16, with Deputy Lord Mayor Coun Jaswant Singh Birdi and Deputy Mayoress Mrs. Birdi both in attendance and handing over the awards on behalf of the club.
