SHANIA Hayles netted a hat-trick to down Coventry United Ladies in Aston Villa’s 4-0 FA Women’s Championship victory.
United were unable to blemish the near-perfect record of the leaders in Sunday’s encounter and in the process remain second-bottom on nine points.
It keeps the Red and Greens locked in the battle for survival, with only Charlton – who are winless – two points below them in the table at present.
An 11th-minute opener from Jade Richards was followed up seconds later by Hayles’ first of the afternoon.
Villa put themselves in cruise control on 25 minutes when Hayles notched her second and the hosts’ third at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground in Boldmere, followed by her hat-trick goal with 23 minutes to play.
While United face a four-week break before their next fixture, a home meeting with sixth-placed Leicester City on Sunday, March 22, it may offer Jay Bradford’s side the respite needed to kick on in the final five games of the season.
