Unlucky 13 for Alvis Sporting as 12-game unbeaten run comes to an end

FOOTBALL: AN UNBEATEN run of 12 games this season came to an end for Alvis Sporting after they were knocked out of the Coventry Telegraph Senior Challenge Cup at the Second Round stage after losing 2-0 at Stockton.
The first half was end-to-end and the home side took the lead just before the interval when a well flighted free kick from the right was headed home past Ross Briscoe.
Alvis dominated after the break against a determined Stockton side who picked up seven bookings and had chances to pull level.
In the 65th Alvis produced the best move of the match involving several players, allowing captain Michael Quirke to fire in a shot which was blocked at the last moment and Dean Kimberlin threaded the ball to Daniel Pidgeon whose shot was well saved.
Alvis attacked strongly in the later stages in an attempt to get an equaliser but were caught on the break in the last minute when Adam Knight guided a right-wing cross into the net from close range.
Alvis manager, Damian Cassidy, said: “We did not turn up, and we were outfought by a stronger side. We have to learn from this defeat in preparation for our future games.”
Alvis return to League action on Saturday when they entertain Barnt Green Spartak at Green Lane and are then hosts to Continental Star next Wednesday evening as they look to regain their lead at the top of the Midland League Division Two table.
