Warwick Racecourse has announced the Air Ambulance Service as its chosen charity of the year – and has dedicated its next big raceday to the cause.

The Horse and Hound Warwickshire Air Ambulance Raceday takes place on Sunday, March 13, as the countdown hots up to the nation’s biggest festival of jumps racing.

The fixture is a traditional curtain raiser to Cheltenham Festival week and is expected to attract an influx of racegoers ahead of the Festival, which gets underway two days later on Tuesday, March 15.

Crabbie’s Grand National winning jockey Jason Maguire, Warwick Racecourse ambassador and top trainer Dan Skelton and Racing UK presenter Niall Hannity are to host a Cheltenham preview in aid of the Air Ambulance Service ahead of the racing.

Andre Klein, General Manager at Warwick Racecourse, said: “We’re thrilled to be supporting the Air Ambulance Service and really looking forward to helping raise the profile of the charity at the next raceday and throughout the rest of this year,” he said.

“The raceday on March 13 will be a great way for the charity to promote the fantastic work it does as it should be a terrific day of racing on the eve of the Cheltenham Festival.

“Warwick is renowned for being a strong proving ground for The Festival, and once again this season has proved to be the case as our racedays have been extremely well supported by owners, trainers and racegoers and we’re hoping for more of the same on March 13.”

Tracy Grunwell, Fundraising Manager for the Air Ambulance added: “The support that we have from Warwick Racecourse will make a huge difference, not just to the charity but to the lives of the people we save. I am very much looking forward to our partnership this year.”

Gates for the Horse and Hound Warwickshire Air Ambulance Raceday open at midday, with the first race at 2pm and last of six on the racecard at 5.20pm.

General admission is £10 if booked by midnight on March 8, £15 from March 9 to midnight on March 12 and £20 on the day. The racecourse is donating £1 for every ticket sold to the Air Ambulance.
