Warwickshire Bears extend winning run to four matches

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL: THE WINNING run continues for Warwickshire Bears’ second team after they claimed a fourth consecutive victory at home to title favourites Plymouth Storm.

A closely fought game at Henley-in-Arden saw the home side run out 44-40 winners in this Third Division South & West fixture.

The Bears had lost out to Plymouth on both occasions last season and they knew they were in for another tough game from the tip off this time around.

The first quarter was a close affair with both defences coming out on top and keeping the scores level at 8-8 and the second quarter followed in the same fashion although Plymouth came out on top 18-19.

A determined Bears side returned for the third period as they looked to gain some momentum but Plymouth seemed to have the answers although it was the hosts who held a narrow 32-31 lead heading into the final period.

The Bears were able to take control of the final quarter and limited their opponents to sporadic opportunities, while taking advantage of their own to seal a four-point win.

“That was a good win against a very good Storm side,” said Bears head coach Masterson.

“They pushed us all the way to the end and anyone could have won it. Think that will turn out to be a very good win for us this season.”

The Bears’ first team are back in action this Sunday against Great Britain’s women’s team Coyotes, while the second team are in action against Worcester Wolves at Warwick College.
