NETBALL: WARWICK University has become the new training base for Wasps Netball as the start of the 2017 Vitality Netball Superleague season edges closer.
The brand new team, only formed last June, will be using the University of Warwick’s Warwick Sport facilities multiple times a week throughout their first ever campaign in UK netball’s top flight, which begins on February 21 away to Sirens in Glasgow.
The university will host some of the country’s top netballers – including last season’s top scorer Rachel Dunn and former Vitality Netball Superleague player of the year and England international Natalie Haythonthwaite.
Tamsin Greenway, Wasps Director of Netball, said: “We have been training at the University of Warwick’s Warwick Sport facilities throughout our pre-season and it’s been the perfect base for us.
“The facilities made available for us here are some of the best in the region, and training here will go a long way to helping our team fulfil its potential and be at the top of our game when the Superleague season starts.
Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Director of Sport & Active Communities at the University of Warwick said: “We’re delighted to have elite women’s sport playing on our campus, and is further recognition of the great facilities that we have.
“This is also a great opportunity for some of our students who are looking to pursue careers in elite sport to build closer links with Wasps Netball, and we look forward to working more closely with them over the coming months.”
