WASPS go in to Saturday’s match against Leinster knowing a victory will see them progress to the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup.
A courageous 23-3 win away against Harlequins on Saturday kept their European hopes alive for another season.
Wasps produced their best performance of the season to avenge their Adams Park defeat against their old rivals and set up a ‘winner-takes-all’ clash with Leinster at the Ricoh on Saturday (kick off 1pm).
Tries from Christian Wade and Joe Simpson were backed up by penalties from Andy Goode and Elliot Daly.
And Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said the team’s defensive effort and will to win was outstanding.
He said: “Sometimes you score 30-40 points with some really attractive rugby, but it wasn’t about that on Saturday.
“Saturday was about guts and determination and a real defensive shift. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you win, as long as you get over the line.
“We’ve just got to back it up next week now, as we’ve given ourselves a real chance, and if we don’t back it up, Saturday won’t have counted for anything.”
“We’ve got a huge battle ahead of us against Leinster, who have had such success and a strong tradition in Europe, but we’re looking forward to welcoming them to the Ricoh and I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic occasion and the boys are already really excited about it.”
