Wasps star backs the Coventry City of Culture bid

WASPS star Joe Launchbury is hoping to be a star on and off the pitch this weekend as he prepares to back Coventry’s City of Culture 2021 bid.

A lifesize cut-out of the 24-year-old holding an ‘I’m Backing the Bid’ poster has been produced ahead of Sunday’s (December 13) European Rugby Champions Cup game against Bath Rugby to inspire people to get behind the city-wide campaign.

Attendees to the Ricoh Arena will be encouraged to have their picture taken alongside the 6ft 6ins lockcut-out and post it on social media.

Martin Fallon, Marketing Manager of Wasps, described the City of Culture bid as ‘massive’ for Coventry and said the team was looking to get behind it in any a number of ways.

He added: “The bid is running a great campaign on Twitter where local people, businesses and groups are posting images of themselves holding the ‘backing the bid’ poster.

“Now, anyone attending a Wasps game can do the same and they’ll even have a life-size version of Joe to pose with.”

David Burbidge, chair of the City of Culture steering group, echoed Mr Fallon and said the cut-out campaign was an opportunity for everyone to get behind the bid.

He added: “To have such a high-profile Wasps and England player lending their image in this way is great news and we hope to see plenty of pictures on Twitter at the weekend.”

The cut-out will be situated in the concourse in the Fan Village Stand.

Tickets for the European match against Bath Rugby are available from £15 for adults and there are some under-10s tickets for free from www.wasps.co.uk or by ringing 024 7678 6411.
