AMELIE Perkins, from Coventry, has been selected in the Great Britain squad for the upcoming under-19 Women’s European Water Polo Championships in Croatia.
The teenage star is part of a 13-strong squad ready to take part in the week-long competition held in Zagreb, Croatia from August 24 to 31 at the end of the month.
Perkins helped Great Britain’s senior team reach the quarter-finals of the European Championships earlier this year and scored twice against reigning world champions The Netherlands.
Perkins said: “I’m looking forward to the under-19 European Championships. We have been training hard as a squad for the last 12 months and have just returned from an intense two-week training camp in Greece.
“We played training games against Greece, Israel, USA and competed really well.
“We have a talented team and I think we can have a successful tournament.”
Great Britain are in a group with Turkey, Bulgaria, Malta and Germany.
Britain play Germany on Saturday, August 24 at 8am before playing Bulgaria later in the day at 7.30pm
GB then take on Malta on Sunday, August 25 at 7.30pm. Britain finish the group phase against Turkey on Tuesday, August 27 at 7.30pm.
If Britain secure a top-two finish in their group, they have a chance of reaching the latter stages of the competition.
The squad comprises: Perkins, Harriet Dickens, Amelie Cornell, Lucy Blenkinship, Lucy Bullock, Zara Christie, Philippa Danielson, Sophie Leveridge, Juliet Lyons, Hannah Pyper, Isobelle Robb, Elizabeth Ross and Zianna Wright.
