West Ham left-back Lewis Page set for Sky Blues loan move

FOOTBALL: YOUNG full-back Lewis Page will move to the Sky Blues on a six-month loan deal from Premier League side West Ham United.

The 20-year-old will provide much-needed competition at left-back for the Sky Blues after it was revealed earlier this month that fellow full-back Chris Stokes is set for a longer period out due to a persistent knee problem.

Page has played three times for the West Ham first team having progressed through the club’s Academy. He made his debut for the club in a 3-0 home win over Lusitano in the Europa League first qualifying round last season.

He also enjoyed a two-month loan spell with League Two side Cambridge United last season, where he made six appearances and will contest for a place in the Sky Blues first team with Ryan Haynes.

The move will see Page remain at the Ricoh Arena until January 12, 2017.

“Lewis is a very technical young footballer, who has already benefited from a successful loan spell away from his parent club,” said City boss Tony Mowbray.

“We have bought him in to create competition in the left-back area, with Chris Stokes likely to be out with injury for longer than expected.

“Lewis is fast and very attack minded, which will fit in well with the system we are trying to play here. I’m looking forward to working with him during his time at the club.”
