Remembering those who served

Coventry Editorial 11th Nov, 2019 Updated: 11th Nov, 2019   0

THOSE who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country were in people’s thoughts on Remembrance Sunday.

This year marked 100 years since the first two-minute silence was observed to mark Armistice Day on November 11, 1919.

And a two minute silence was observed across the district on Sunday (November 10) as wreaths were laid at war memorials on a bright crisp autumn morning in commemoration of those killed in the world wars and more recent conflicts.

Thousands of people paid their respects alongside members of organisations including the Royal British Legion, Royal Naval Association, Royal Air Force Association, Royal Warwickshire Regimental Association, sea and police cadets, and youngsters from the scouting organisation among others.
