AROUND 15,000 households in Coventry will receive letters in the coming days asking them if they want to be part of what is thought to be the UK’s first Citizens’ Assembly on Art and Culture.
Of those, 50 will be selected as a cross section of the community for the ‘Art for the People’ project developed by Coventry-based Talking Birds.
Those chosen will be asked to discuss how arts, culture and creativity will shape a better future for Coventry, hearing from expert witnesses.
They will then contribute ideas on how culture could impact on real lives in the city and the decisions will help devise new arts and creative projects planned and funded for Coventry in 2022.
Sessions will run across six weekdays online and one full weekend in person, between late October and late November, with participants receiving £300 to thank them for their time. Any additional needs people have, such as support with computers or childcare, will also be provided for.
