Care home resident recognised by armed forces charity for volunteer work

A RESIDENT at Harper Fields care home in Balsall Common has been recognised for his loyal service to the SSAFA – the armed forces charity.

Walter Knight has been awarded a a certificate of grateful recognition for 21 years supporting the forces and their dependents by the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association.

Hayley Wilkinson, general manager at Harper Fields said: “We are all extremely proud of one of our residents.

“Walter volunteered his time and commitment with the Solihull branch.




“Without volunteers like Walter SSAFA would not be able to continue its valuable work.

“Walter you truly are a wonderful gentleman.


“You have a smile and an ear for everyone. Another awesomely proud moment at Harper fields, well done Walter.”

Walter’s wife Sheila along with Hayley deputy manager Melanie McHugh presented Walter with his certificate.

He said “I feel very honoured,

“I loved volunteering for SSAFA.”

Walter’s wife Sheila cried she was so happy, and sang her husband’s praises as a volunteer.
