FRAUDSTERS are targeting residents by sending letters bearing the Age UK logo.
Warwickshire Trading Standards is warning residents across Warwickshire to beware of the bogus letters, which falsely claim that an Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire ‘housing surveyor’ has visited the property and carried out a visual inspection while the homeowner was out.
The results of the ‘survey’ are attached to the letter, but they bear little resemblance to the actual property.
The letter goes on to suggest the property requires building work or maintenance, and that the sender will return to discuss work that needs doing.
The letter is poorly written, but does contain the name and address of the recipient.
Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire has confirmed these letters have not been sent by the charity and have issued a warning.
Warwickshire Trading Standards advised residents who had received a similar letter and then receive a visit not to allow the visitor into their homes, but to keep their doors closed and report the incident to Warwickshire Trading Standards on 0808 223 1133.
