King and Queen to Strengthen Transatlantic Ties with Landmark US State Visit and Bermuda Tour - NATIONAL NEWS

Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will undertake a significant State Visit to the United States next month, followed by a historic Royal Visit to Bermuda, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The visit, made on the advice of His Majesty’s Government and at the invitation of Donald Trump, is set to highlight the enduring partnership between the United Kingdom and the United States.

It will also coincide with a major milestone in American history, the 250th anniversary of independence, underscoring the shared heritage and evolving alliance between the two nations.

Celebrating a Special Relationship

The programme in the United States is expected to focus on both history and modern cooperation. Events will celebrate centuries of cultural, political, and military ties, while also reinforcing present day collaboration on global challenges.

Although the full itinerary has yet to be released, key engagements are expected in Washington, D.C.. These will include a State Banquet at the White House and a rare address by His Majesty to the US Congress, a symbolic gesture reflecting the strength of the bilateral relationship.

This marks the first State Visit by a British monarch to the United States since Queen Elizabeth II visited in 2007, making it a moment of both continuity and renewal.

The visit follows President Trump’s own trip to the United Kingdom in 2025, during which he was hosted at Windsor Castle. That occasion was widely seen as reinforcing diplomatic goodwill, with the President describing his reception as an honour and praising his personal rapport with the King.

Diplomacy Amid Differences

The announcement comes despite recent political tensions between London and Washington, including disagreements over international security issues such as the Iran conflict and Keir Starmer’s Chagos deal. Public debate has also emerged in the UK regarding the timing of the visit, with opinion polls indicating a divided public response.

Nevertheless, the State Visit reflects the UK government’s strategic commitment to maintaining close ties with its most important ally. As with all such visits, the King will act on behalf of ministers, representing national interests and supporting diplomatic engagement.

A Historic Visit to Bermuda

Following the United States tour, The King will travel on to Bermuda, marking his first visit to a British Overseas Territory since ascending the throne.

The visit carries particular symbolic weight, reaffirming the Crown’s relationship with the Overseas Territories and recognising their role within the wider British family. Bermuda, with its long standing historical links to the UK, will provide a fitting setting for this milestone moment in His Majesty’s reign.

Looking Ahead

Beyond formal engagements, public interest is likely to extend to potential personal moments during the visit, including whether the King may meet his son, Prince Harry, who resides in the United States.

Ultimately, the upcoming tour represents more than ceremony. It is a demonstration of Britain’s commitment to global partnership, a reaffirmation of shared democratic values, and a confident step in strengthening alliances in a complex world.

As the United States marks 250 years of independence, the presence of the British monarch serves as a powerful reminder of how far both nations have come, from former adversaries to steadfast allies bound by history, respect, and common purpose.
