THE MAN killed in a car collision near Balsall Common has been named as Simon Taylor.

The 34-year-old local man was killed instantly when his Honda was hit by a Ford Ranger which flipped in a collision with a van at the junction of Holly Lane and Table Oak Lane.

West Midlands Police are investigating the crash but have made no arrests.

The occupants of the Ford Ranger and Mercedes Vito survived the crash, neither were seriously injured.

Officers said the van driver is helping them with their investigations.

Residents are now petitioning Solihull Council to make safety improvements at the notorious junction. Donna Llewellyn, of nearby Oldwich Lane, said: “I started a petition last week, I am trying to get at least 2000 signatures from around Balsall Common to make the junction safe.

“I’m just going to keep pushing it and keep going – how many more people have to die on this road before the council do something?”

Following the collision, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Ambulance crews arrived to find and car and a 4×4 that had been involved in a collision. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the occupant of the car, a man, and he was confirmed deceased by paramedics on scene.

“Two other people involved in the collision were assessed by ambulance staff on scene for minor injuries. Neither required hospital treatment and were discharged on scene.”

Sergeant Dean Caswell of West Midlands Police, said: “If anyone saw what happened or was driving in the area at the time and may have caught anything of interest on dash-cam video then I’d urge them to get in touch.”
