SAVE OUR BEES: Region's MPs step in to back our Save Our Bees campaign

Coventry Editorial 5th Apr, 2017   0

MEMBERS of Parliament from across the region have answered calls from The Coventry Observer to ‘Save Our Bees’ and have backed our campaign.

MPs Jim Cunningham, Colleen Fletcher, Marcus Jones and Mark Pawsey have all backed The Coventry Observer’s calls for the Bees to return to racing next year.

They have also expressed their support for a long-term plan to be developed so the Bees can look forward to a bright future away from their Brandon home once a potential lease ends.

Mr Cunningham, Coventry South MP, and Ms Fletcher, Coventry North East MP, each replied to our calls stating their support to the campaign.

Mark Pawsey MP – chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for speedway – is also supporting our campaign to Save Coventry Speedway while he continues to raise the situation the club faces in Parliament.

The Save Coventry Speedway campaign group has also received messages from MPs Craig Tracey, Jeremy Wright, and Chris White – all of whom said they’d consider a response should the contact live within their constituency.

Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has also pledged his support to save the world famous speedway team – which first raced at Coventry Stadium in 1928.

Mr Jones sent a statement to The Coventry Observer and said he shares the disappointment of many Coventry Bees supporters from Nuneaton.

He said: “The club, which has a long and impressive history, can only survive and flourish if it has a secure home stadium.

“I sincerely hope that all of those involved will act in the best interests of the fans, riders and sport of Speedway to resolve their differences and end the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.

“I am pleased to support the Coventry Observer’s campaign and would urge all Speedway fans living in Nuneaton to Save our Bees.”
