A SUSPECTED thief was arrested within five minutes of a 999 call reporting a motorbike being stolen in Coventry.
Police were alerted at 4.10pm on Monday May 4 to a theft in progress.
Within minutes, Coventry’s Response officers were on the scene and spotted the bike in Tarquin Close.
The suspected thief was chased down by one of the officers and was detained by 4.15pm.
The bike was seized and returned to its owner.
A 15-year-old was arrested and charged on suspicion of vehicle theft, and has been bailed with conditions to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court on May 21.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “In 2025-26, we took 730,748 calls to 999, with an average time to answer of just two seconds, and sometimes as low as one second.
“Figures for the year ending March 2026 show that we are cutting the crime that matters most to communities, including vehicle crime being down almost four per cent.”
