Volunteers lead spring clean in Coventry city centre

A SPRING clean has been sprung on Coventry city centre.

Around 40 volunteers from businesses in the city centre came together for a large-scale litter pick.

Organisers Coventry Business Improvement District and NatWest drummed up recruits from businesses and organisations including Chat Central, Nationwide, Street Pastors, Lower Precinct, Voluntary Action, Jubilee Litter Hub, Wombles, Telegraph Hotel, PLMR and Yorkshire Building Society.

They collected an impressive 38 bin bags of rubbish from across the city centre, with Coventry City Council’s Street Pride team providing litter-picking equipment.

Participants said the experience was enjoyable, rewarding and community-driven, with many adding they were motivated further by messages of support from appreciative passersby.

Jo Glover, Chief Executive of Coventry BID, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have brought together such a fantastic group of volunteers from across Coventry’s business and community sectors.

“The energy and enthusiasm on display was inspiring, and the results speak for themselves.

“Initiatives like this show what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose.

“It sends a clear message that people care deeply about Coventry and are willing to take action to make it an even better place to live, work and visit.”

Harpreet Pooni, Manager of NatWest’s Coventry city centre branch, said: “While the streets of Coventry are always clean, the sense of community these events inspire is truly second to none. Thank you to everyone who took part.”

Coventry BID is planning further community-focused initiatives in the coming months.
