WARWICKSHIRE Women’s county bowls team were out in force to celebrate Nuneaton Bowling Club’s centenary year with a special one-off fixture.

And Nuneaton Ladies were not intimidated by the prospect of playing the county side as they won 89-87 in an extremely tight contest.

Highest winning rink went to skip Jenny Corn’s team with Lynne Innes (Stratford), Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) and Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) who won 24-10 after taking six shots at the 12th end.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Pam Jowers (Stratford), Thelma Orberson (Avenue Coventry) and Pat Moore (Three Spires) battled to a closely fought 13-all draw.

Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Heather Mills (Rugby Ladies), Hazel Goodman and Pippa Mace (Lillington) were level after seven ends before the Nuneaton Ladies pulled clear to win 15-12.

Mary Wheildon (Warwick Boat Club) with Liz Crispin (Wolvey), Vivienne Belt and Margaret Colvin (Stratford) were only three shots behind after 10 ends but eventually lost 16-12.

Elspeth Summers (Stratford) with Vanessa Brazier (Rugby Rail), Margaret Stephens and Jayne Henfrey (both Lillington) were trailing by seven shots after seven ends only to draw level at the 12th end with a superb recovery effort.

However, Nuneaton Ladies began to pull away and secured a thrilling 18-14 success.

Chris Cooke (Southam) with Christine Harding (Rugby Thornfield), Brenda Batt (Snitterfield) and county president, Donna Kerr (Lillington) were under the cosh for most of the game against county senior vice president, Caroline Harris, and her team in a 17-12 defeat.

County president Kerr presented a county colt Badge to Brenda Batt (Snitterfield) and a county badge to Pam Jowers (Stratford).
