COVENTRY City produced a stunning comeback from two goals down to win 3-2 against 10-man West Bromwich Albion.
Goals from Josh Eccles, Ellis Simms and Victor Torp turned the game in Coventry’s favour at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
That came after Aune Heggebo scored a first-half brace to put Albion in command before Eccles struck shortly before the break to reduce the deficit.
And Albion then had Jayson Molumby sent off early in the second half as Coventry made the most of the man advantage to complete the turnaround.
The result sees Coventry extend their lead at the top of the Championship table to eight points ahead of the rest of the division’s games later this afternoon.
West Brom stunned the Sky Blues after just nine minutes when Heggebo swept home Mikey Johnston’s low ball in from the right.
And Heggebo went close again soon after when he nodded straight at Carl Rushworth before Torp lashed a shot against the crossbar at the other end.
Albion almost doubled their lead when the ball broke to Molumby in the box as Rushworth made a crucial stop with his boot.
And the visitors struck again on 32 minutes as Heggebo turned another Johnston cross into the net via the aid of the post.
The Sky Blues halved the deficit on 41 minutes when Eccles headed Tatsuhiro Sakamoto’s cross from the right into the right corner of the goal from 10-yards out.
City almost drew level moments before the break as Albion goalkeeper Josh Griffiths pushed Simms’ effort to safety.
The game turned on 49 minutes when Molumby received a second yellow card when he pulled back Eccles as the midfielder attempted to break close to the halfway line.
And Coventry made the extra man count on 56 minutes as Simms deftly guided Bobby Thomas’s initial header into the left corner of the goal from six-yards out.
The Sky Blues completed the turnaround five minutes later after Albion failed to deal with a corner from the right and Torp lashed a volley into the ground which deceived Griffiths.
Coventry almost extended their lead late on as Griffiths tipped Ephron Mason-Clark’s venomous effort from 20-yards out over the crossbar.
Moments later, Griffiths denied both Liam Kitching and Mason-Clark in quick succession to keep the visitors in the contest.
However, Frank Lampard’s side comfortably saw out the remainder of the game to seal a fifth successive home win and move further clear at the top of the table.
